To celebrate the ninth series of Big Brother (which starts 5 June on Channel 4), it gives me a good excuse to take a look back at 8 years of the sexiest female housemates. They've all gone on to bigger and better things since their time under 24/7 surveillance. Or, rather, that was their calculated plan..
The reality of most women's post-house existence tends to involve tabloid cash, a consequent boob job, Big Brother punditry, sleeping with Russell Brand, getting papped stumbling out of clubs wearing no knickers, and having Nuts on speed-dial...
Before the house: Kate was an IT technician and part-time model from Kent, born in 1980. In the house: Kate was most memorable for her drunken antics in the house, and eventually won the whole series. After the house: Kate is one of the few housemates to find genuine success after the show, working on TV and radio. She was a DJ on Capital FM until 2003 and is currently co-presenting the Kerrang! Radio breakfast show with Tim Shaw. She dated Jonathan Woodgate for 18 months till 2005. Visit Kate's official website.
Before the house: Shell worked in the arts in New York. In the house: Shell was usually crying and once fainted in the bathroom after a violent argument with housemate Victor during the infamous "Fight Night". She also decided it would be a good idea to mow the lawn... stark naked. It seemed to help her popularity; she finished fourth. After the house: She has appeared in a few lingerie photoshoots, usually with fellow housemate Vanessa.
Before the house: Emily was a drama student from Bristol, born in 1988. In the house: Despite her alleged university-level intelligence, "indie lover" Emily was booted off the show very early for making a casual racist remark to Charley. The "n-word" didn't cause Charley offence, but resulted in viewer complaints and Emily's premature eviction. After the house: Emily has appeared in a few magazines like Nuts. Visit a website all about Emily.
Before the house: Michelle worked in Newcastle as a mortgage advisor. In the house: She started an intense relationship with "chicken" Stu, culminating with the two having sex under a table obscured by a tablecloth. She was considered a Geordie bunny boiler by viewers, but stayed popular. After the house: Michelle went on to become the face of adult channel Television X and regularly appears in magazines like Nuts, Max Power and Zoo. Visit Michelle's official website or her Myspace page.
Before the house: Vanessa was a former South African archery champion, who was born in Cape Town but moved to Leeds in '94. In the house: Well, she looked great sunbathing. After the house: She dated TV personality Ben Fogle for awhile, and now works as a glamour model. She has appeared in magazines like...you guessed it, Nuts and Zoo.
Before the house: Orlaith was a business student and runner-up in 1999s Miss Notherland Ireland competition -- losing to a pre-Blue Peter Zoë Salmon! She was also Belfast's Woman Of The Year 2005. In the house: Along with nerdy Eugene, she was voted in by housemate Makosi after spending time in the Secret Garden of the house. She regularly took topless showers and spent a lot of time in the Jacuzzi, before becoming very depressed and leaving. After the house: Orlaith now works as a glamour model for FHM, Nuts and Zoo. She competed in the Miss Great Britain '06 contest, but lost to Danielle Lloyd. In Feb '07, she gave birth to a baby girl with an Irish property developer. It was rumoured in Apr '07 that they had split and she had returned to Belfast. Visit an Orlaith fansite here, or her personal Myspace page.
Before the house: Grace was a dance teacher from London. In the house: Grace was very memorable as the resident super-bitch, famously throwing a glass of water over posh Susie just before she was evicted. Grace was constantly arguing with housemates, particularly Aisleyne, although she found a soulmate in dopey Mikey. After the house: She became engaged to Mikey in Oct '06, won Sky One reality show Cirque de Celebrite and is currently the face of Uncle Ben's Sweet & Sour. She married Mikey in Oct '07 and they are still together. Visit a Grace fansite here.
Before the house: Imogen worked as a barmaid in Wales and became Miss Wales 2003. She has degrees in psychology and health studies. In the house: Imogen arrived in the house with Richard after they were kept in the secret House Next Door. She didn't really do much, but didn't like how some housemates ganged up on Aisleyne. After the house: Imogen had to content with the fallout of a 7-minute sex-tape that was leaked onto the internet during her time on Big Brother. She guest-starred on Welsh soap Pobol y Cym, had a brief fling with Russell Brand and posed for Nuts magazine. Imogen continues to appear on a variety of Welsh TV/radio programmes, and was voted Sexiest Woman in Wales in '06. She is also named in 2008's list of Playboy Bunnies on the Playboy website. Visit Imogen's official website.
Before the house: Chanelle was a self-confessed Victoria Beckham wannabe, who dreamed of becoming a WAG. In the house: Chanelle attached herself to hunky Ziggy when he entered the women-only house early in the series. She had numerous arguments with housemate Charley. After the house: Chanelle romanced Ziggy for awhile, before splitting from him. She has posed semi-nude for magazines like Nuts, Zoo and FHM. She's a Michelle for George lingerie model and helps promote Diva Corsets. Chanelle was also a judge for the reality show Wannabe (which aimed to create a girl band), co-presented for Nuts TV, and starred in her own reality VH-1 series ("Chanelle: Wannabe Popstar" -- which followed her bid for pop stardom.) Her single "I Want It" reached a pitiful #63 in the UK charts. She has also released a perfume called "Mwah..." Visit Chanelle's personal Myspace page here.
Before the house: Aisleyne was a model and promotions girl from London. In the house: Aisleyne became known for being a chavvy Machiavellian type, but finished third as her faux street-talkin' popularity grew. After the house: She resumed modelling and regularly appears in Zoo, Nuts and the Daily Star. She currently presents an online urban radio station called Invincible Radio every Thursday @ 5pm. She sells merchandise through her private website and has guest-starred on Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe 3 times. In '07, she became a patron of Brain Tumour UK. Visit Aisleyne's official website here, a fansite here, and her personal Myspace page here.
