Do Some Female Athletes Sell Sex Appeal First?

An article in the Sun Sentinel discusses the growing trend of female athletes selling their sex appeal rather than their ability. The article names Danica Patrick, Anna Kournikova, Amanda Beard, Jennie Finch, Maria Sharapova and Natalie Gulbis as the biggest offenders.

Though the author does have a point regarding the need for wholesome girl role models, these women in particular may not be the best, but their ability took them to the highest playing field, which is saying a lot. They have used that platform as a means to financial freedom and perhaps a bit of self gratification. If any of these ladies were the best in their rec league, would they be in FHM or Sports Illustrated?
